Reading “Paths of the Heart” was a true learning experience. In an age of strained relations between Christians and Muslims (and a time in which widespread ignorance of each others Traditions exist) this book could prove immensely helpful. If you know anything about Eastern Orthodoxy in the English speaking world you have probably heard of Bishop Kallistos Ware. Bishop Ware presents an excellent chapter on the Jesus Prayer and the way of entering the heart. The same can be said of Seyyed Hossein Nasr – That is, if you are at all knowledge regarding Islam in America you have probably read one of his books or at least heard of him before. Nasr’s chapter on the Mercy of God alone is worth the price of the book.

If anyone is interested in previewing a chapter of this book before they purchase it I would recommend checking out James Cutsingers web page. On his page you can find the chapter ” Hesychia, an Orthodox Opening to Esoteric Ecumenism” – [wont let me put the web address just Google " James Cutsinger, Hesychia, an Orthodox... "]

To comment on a previous review: Yes, Hesychasm is not recognized as “mainstream Christianity” in most Western denominations but it is perfectly mainstream among Orthodox Christians (including those living in the west). It’s also compatible with the teachings of many of the great Catholic Mystics and Saints. Read “The Invocation of the Name of Jesus As Practiced in the Western Church” by Rama Coomaraswamy for evidence of this.
Paths to the Heart

This is nearly a perfect book. I have nothing negative to say about it, so perhaps that means it IS a perfect book. It communicates coolness to the 3rd/4th grade set smashingly.

Bobby North starts at a new school and finds the things that were cool at his old school aren’t cool in his new environment. So he immitates the coolest kid, skatboarding moose Harry Haller(at first very badly). With practice he gets better and wins the appelation “cool.” He becomes SO cool he chills completely.

Then his coolness is challenged (by warthog Siggy Sidewinder). (Usually the story ends here with the challenged winning out…) And he’s so intent on feeling the coolness of his air-grabbing stunt that he plants his face in the shrubs.

When Siggy laughs at him the next day at school Bobby & Harry have a little discussion about what coolness is.

Sandra Boynton’s cooly colored cartoon illustrations are just exactly right: cute without being cutesy. An excellent gift for young skateboard enthusiasts who may or may not love to read. OR an excellent gift for that teenager who is searching for cool.

Happy Reading!
The Heart Of Cool

An interesting interpretation of Christian scriptures and concepts by His Holiness and other participants. One can “feel” from the book that all gathered there are really caring people interested in genuine interfaith dialogue without any hidden agenda, for the benefit of humanity.
The Good Heart A

Winter’s Heart is the first book since Fires of Heaven to actually move forward with the Prophecies of the Dragon rather than continue world-building at a snail’s pace. Without ruining the plot, a number of major plot lines throughout the series advance quite nicely — Rand and saidin, Elayne and her kingdom, the relationship between Min, Elayne, Aviendha, the Forsaken and Darkfriend plots, Mat’s eventual fate, the use of all sorts of neat toys, a new city and culture that’s not inserted solely as a backdrop. Where I was somewhat disappointed — and where I still shake my head with this entire series — is why Jordan continues to insert a dazzling amount of new characters when so many of the old ones (Perrin, the Aiel, Moriaine and Thom, Padan Fain, the intrigues of the White Tower and Aes Sedai, and most of the minor powers-that-be-in-conquered-and-other-kingdoms) have so much more that could be done with them and remain relatively ignored from book to book. (It may say something that the prologue here runs a full 85 pages to try to at least touch on some of the otherwise ignored plot lines!) By now, you should know whether you love or hate Jordan’s style of writing, so the paragraph long vivid narrations either grab your attention or allow easy speed reading to find what happens next. He does also use a lot more in-the-mind-of-individual-character views here which does move the plot forward (at least you know whose side they’re on for a change). Net-net, this is clearly the best book from him since either the Shadow Rising or Fires of Heaven and the ending here does make you wonder for the first time in about 4 books as to where the series goes next which is perhaps the most refreshing of all things about the novel. The only bad news is that given the plots he has to wrap up I still think he’s got another 3 books at least. For now, though, a worthy holiday escape.

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is the second book in Ally Carter’s Gallagher Girl series. It is just as cute and well-written as the first book.

It’s a new semester at Cammie’s spy school. But getting through the next part of her Covert Operations class isn’t her only challenge; the school is also keeping a secret from its students, a secret called Blackthorne. Soon, it’s up to Cammie and her genius friends to save the school.

In my opinion, some parts of this story are predictable, but the storyline is cute, so I read it anyway. In fact, this is one of the few series that I collect. I was disappointed that the sequel to I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You wasn’t longer, because I really enjoyed reading about a spy-in-training’s love life. The good news is, Gallagher Girls is not going to be limited to a two-book series.

This is a quick and light read. I recommend this book for fans of action and romance novels.

Easy to set up. Network connection was easy.
The Remotes and Nunchucks are a bit spendy when you have to buy three more of each. The Wii usually only comes with one set. Altho, you can hold off on the Nunchucks as there aren’t very many multipayer games where you can use three or more people that need the Nunchucks. Usually just two people need it. And then you’ll have to buy the Game Pad to play the older games if you are used to using it. But then some of the Wii’s are now coming with the rubber “protectors” already on the Remotes so that’s great.

A blast when playing with more then one person on some of the games. We haven’t really bought many games for it as the grand kids are just getting to the point of being able to play now. The attention span just isn’t there yet. The games we do have are great to play.

The Exploded Heart

Awesome book, it was good for me because it did cover how a man feels when his wife betrays him. Most books only speak of the man as the offender but when a Pastor’s wife commits adultery how does the pastor feel?
Mending a Shattered Heart

SECRETS OF THE HEART is a very good end to the series of SO WILD A HEART and THE HIDDEN HEART! I recommend you begin the series with the first book as all the stories are closely connected. All three books are easy to read regency romances with a flare of mystery.
Secrets Of The Heart

I thought this was going to be a “chick’s” book, but was delightfully surprised. I loved the dialogue and the author’s wonderful use of metaphor. The analyses of the “Troubles” from both inside and outside was honest and believable. Her characters are tragic, but not pathetic; authentic and flawed. Their fate is very much of their own making. The novel reminded me of French cinema, trenche de vivre, with no formulas, no real ending.
