I never thought of myself as an e-reader person – boy, I was glad to find out I was SO wrong! Before buying an e-reader, I did a lot of research. Although I was intrigued by the Kindle, I was more impressed with the color display (and hype) of the color-screen on the Nook. Dazzled by the new bright shiny object and wanting to be a leader in technology, I opted to go for the Nook. At the same time while using my Nook, I bought the Kindle for my husband. After two weeks of using the Nook, I realized I’d made a big mistake. Soon, I was reaching for my husband’s Kindle and downloading books to his e-reader. Now, I was unhappy with the Nook, and the hubby was unhappy with me snatching his Kindle! After two frustrating weeks with the Nook, I sold it, and could hardly wait to get my new Kindle! I’ve never looked back. Amazon and the Kindle know how to design an e-reader. The POSITIVES: (1) Extremely easy to use, (2) buying with one click makes purchasing super simple, (3) the highlighter works beautifully, (4) it automatically provides a definition of a word (without having to leave the book), just by placing your cursor near the word, (5) extremely light-weight, (6) fits in nearly any purse – making it flexible to carry and take anywhere, (7) amazing battery life (~10 days) with wireless off, etc. I could go on and on about the positive things about the Kindle. I truly love it, and I take it with me everywhere. Is it perfect? No, things rarely are. So here are the things I would change if I could (the NEGATIVES): (a) the keyboard takes a lot of real estate, and the only time you use it is to search for a word or shop for a book, (b) no color screen, (c) I would love a customizable screen saver, not the canned screen saver Amazon gives you!
