For a first novel the author did well in addressing conditions of inequality in a method seldom seen. I did enjoy this book though I felt the characters could have used more depth. It was a touching work, nevertheless. I am a born Southerner and though I’ve lived in a variety of areas of this country, I’ve been back in the South for the last 30 years even though the vast population of bigots, hypocrites and racists is frightening. Civil rights issues still need to be pursued aggressively particularly during this horrid time in our country when there are those who are working very hard to do away with everything FDR accomplished. Don’t let them do that, please.

I purchased the Kindle for a family vacation. I usually take 4 or 5 books with me. With the Kindle I had 9 books at my fingertips, it was so lightweight that after a 12 hour drive my arms were not tired. I really love how easy it is to buy books and how fast I receive them. My husband even mentioned how happy I seem we my Kindle. I’m very happy with it.

I am a novice runner doing only 5K and 10K distances. I run a 5K in about 27:00 so I’m not competitive. From that standpoint, I think the Garmin Forerunner 305 is an excellent running companion. The large face allows me to monitor my pace, total time, and distance with one easy glance. For a runner like myself trying to better my times but also be accurate on my distances, it is an AWESOME device. I especially like the ability to download my run data after my run and make notes on particular runs concerning weather conditions, my leg conditions, etc. Overall, I would certainly recommend this product to any beginner runner. I would think that even long distance runners and more advance runners than I would find the device very useful. The battery life has been more than enough for my runs as well. Great prodcut.

Pros: Like the product once I got use to the panels.

Cons: With Outlook Express e-mail the spell checker corrects in French. Have not found a remedy for this yet. I can’t live without spell checker in English. Spell checker works fine in Word in English. Go figure.
ATEN 2 Port USB

I’ve been trying several other products in this space and after several recommendations ended up giving this solution a last shot. For once I ended up with a working solution right from the start.

Setup:

Dell Inspiron 8500
Generic P4 Server
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro (usb)
Microsoft USB Intellimouse Optical – wireless (usb)

I had major issues with a D-Link and Belkin solution before – in both cases the keyboard was stuttering and the mouse not consistently handling clicks.

No issues here with either with the keyboard or mouse. Even the USB ports on the keyboard work…

The only minor downside is that the sync between machines is a little slow – it can take a few seconds for the laptop especially to get mouse/keyboard active although the screen switch is instant.

EVERYONE in our “variety” of book club members loved this book. Do not be put-off by the racial themes mentioned – it is not a “hate-filled” book although it may seem that way for a while. This book will be a classic. So thrilled for the author’s success :)
