I thought this book was a really terrific account of the lives of both the black maids and their white
employers in the precivil rights south. This story brings to life the attitudes of the times. The white women who employed the “help” were brought up to believe that black people were “different”, not really as feeling or human as their white counterparts. I enjoyed the story and plan to read more about this period in our country’s history.
